The National Off-Highway Vehicle Conservation Council (NOHVCC) is a nonprofit public benefit organization, recognized as tax exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code. Primarily funded by the Motorcycle Industry Council, Specialty Vehicle Institute of America and the Recreational Off-Highway Vehicle Association, NOHVCC exists to create a positive future for OHV Recreation.
Mission
NOHVCC, as a national body of OHV recreation enthusiasts, develops and provides a wide spectrum of programs, materials and information, or “tools”, to individuals, clubs, associations and agencies to further a positive future for responsible OHV recreation.
Publications
NOHVCC has published 2 excellent guides that have become the standard for OHV route and trail development, recognized and used by both clubs and land managers for how to build trails or mitigate impacts on trails. When you are looking for ways to mitigate or reduce impacts on a trail, these guides are an excellent resource that is recognized by BLM and Forest Service as the gold standard. If you’re using the guides in comments, citing the page number from the NOHVCC guide is an excellent way to make your point about possible solutions.
Great Trails Resource Guide is a 350 page guide that has not only the basics of trail construction and mitigation, but also includes many solutions to issues on a trail.
The Great Trails Field Guide is a 54 page guide that explains the basic concepts of trail construction and maintenance.
